Chocolate to eat... and to read...

Updated: Sep 22, 2023

Today, 13 September, we celebrate International Chocolate Day. Since 1995, this sweet treat has been commemorated with its own spot in the calendar, in honour of the birthday of British author Roald Dahl, known for works such as Matilda, The Witches and, of course, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Interestingly, September 13th is also the birthday of Milton S. Hershey, founder of the American chocolate company Hershey's.

For many people around the world, chocolate is a vital part of our lives. From treating ourselves to a mid-afternoon snack, to enjoying a hot cup of chocolate in winter, to celebrating our own birthday party with a classic chocolate cake, chocolate and its derivatives are synonymous with things that are sweet, comforting, and timeless, the essentials of everyday life. It can even symbolise love, not for nothing is it given as a gift on Valentine's Day, and it can even be beneficial to health: eating chocolate, especially chocolate with a high cocoa content, can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases due to its antioxidant properties. If consumed in moderation, of course.

So, what better way to celebrate a holiday that originates from literature than reading? From Libros de las Malas Compañías, we invite you to learn about the history of this dessert with our book Del cacao al chocolate. Pour yourself a cup of hot chocolate and discover how this delicacy evolved from cocoa beans to the sweet treat we consume and celebrate today, focusing on the culture and the history and legends associated with it.antes. Si se consume en moderación, claro.
